Mazatlantidawas founded on September 27, 2022, driven by the initiative of a young man from Mazatlán with a deep admiration for his city's history, culture, and traditions. During a trip to Canada, inspired by the grandeur of the Mazatlán International Carnival and in anticipation of its 125th anniversary in 2023, the idea arose to create a digital space dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of one of Mexico's most important celebrations.
From its earliest days, Mazatlantida resonated with thousands of people who shared a sense of pride in Mazatlán. What began as a page dedicated to the carnival quickly evolved into a platform for showcasing the port city's historical, cultural, and tourist attractions, strengthening the sense of identity among Mazatlecos and bringing their traditions closer to people from around the world.
The name Mazatlantida originates from the theme of the 2016 Mazatlán International Carnival, "Mazatlantida: The Allegory That Emerged from the Waves," an artistic concept that represented the city's maritime essence, creativity, and identity. Inspired by this concept, the project adopted a name that reflects pride in its roots and its enduring connection to Mazatlán.
In August 2025, Mazatlantida entered a new phase by broadening its editorial focus. In addition to continuing to promote Mazatlan's history and culture, the project incorporated content related to social, scientific, and cultural events, as well as topics of public interest, taking its first steps as a digital media outlet.
Throughout 2026, the project's growth allowed it to consolidate a broader vision. Mazatlantida evolved into a news outlet with national and international coverage, expanding its journalistic agenda to cover politics, science, technology, space exploration, the environment, culture, history, entertainment, and sports. At the same time, it began producing reports, interviews, special features, and multimedia content with an independent editorial approach.
Today, Mazatlantida continues its transformation with the goal of establishing itself as a leading digital media outlet, committed to responsible journalism, fact-checking, and providing context for events. With a forward-looking vision and an identity built on its roots, the project remains committed to reporting with rigor and bringing its readers the stories that shape current events in Mexico and around the world.
Although our reach is now international, we will never forget where this story began: Mazatlán. Because our roots remain the foundation upon which we are building the future of Mazatlantida.
